Walt Disney Parks & Resorts finalized plans to purchase 21 acres of oceanfront property on Hawaii’s island of Oahu. The property, located on the island’s western side in the Ko Olina Resort & Marina, Honolulu’s premier resort destination, will be home to Disney’s first mixed-use family resort outside of its theme park developments. NCLA Partners with Hawaii on Education

NCL America Partners with Hawaii on Education
Published on: March 9, 2007

NCL America and the State of Hawaii’s Department of Education signed an agreement to create an education program designed to expose Hawaii’s future workforce to career opportunities aboard cruise ships. The pilot education program with Maui public schools is called “Navigating Through a Sea of Opportunities.” Over the next two weeks, 400 eighth grade students from Maui Waena Intermediate School, Lahainaluna High School, Samual Enoka Kalama Intermediate School, Maui High School, and Maui Community College, will get a chance to tour one of NCL America’s three U.S.-flagged ships — Pride of Aloha, Pride of America and Pride of Hawaii — meet the crew, and learn about the jobs available in the cruise industry. Crew members from the front desk, shore excursion, hotel management, the galley, food and beverage, wait staff, housekeeping, deck, engine and environmental departments will meet with the students and give them a first-hand look at what it’s like to work and live on a cruise ship.

The program kicked off last August when 16 teachers from Maui public schools were invited over three Saturdays for a series of workshops aboard Pride of Aloha. The goal was to educate and train participating teachers about the cruise ship business. They, in turn, went back to their classrooms to develop and deliver the career education programs. The teacher sessions were led by NCL America crew and included such topics such as company overview, safety and environmental procedures, ship operations and testimony from crew members about life onboard.

Assistant Superintendent Kathy Kawaguchi says the Department of Education is thrilled to partner with NCL America on what is the first career education program of its kind in the cruise industry. “The Department of Education now requires middle school teachers to provide students with the knowledge to begin developing a career plan,” she said. “This program will expose students to exciting career options and encourage some to choose high school or collage curriculum that will educate them in their chosen field, whether it be in the cruise industry or other profession.”

I Love That Commercial!

26 01 2007

You know the one! A group of concerned friends, family or co-workers confront a person that looks like they are straight from the cast of the “Living Dead.”
Do you need a Bahamavention?
Love it!
And, yes, I do need a Bahamavention, or any other (insert travel destination)-vention. I’m ready…let’s go!

I bet you or someone you know could stand one, too. Here in the midwest, it’s cold and white outside (and I’m not talking about sand.) Around this time of year I go a little stir-crazy and my skin starts to get all pasty and dry.
That just can’t be too healthy.

So, what are the signs that one needs a “travelvention?”
Here are the Top 10 Reasons to book a warm weather break:

10. You miss wearing your sunglasses.
9. You buy a month pass to your local tanning salon and pretend that your basking in the sun on a beautiful beach.
8. Your Jimmy Buffet CD is worn out!
7. You can’t imagine where all that rum went to?
6. Your answer of, “Ya, mon!” is really starting to bug people!
5. Your considering investing in a UV lamp.
4. You don your snorkel gear at the local Y (or worse yet, in the tub!)
3. You fantasize about being marooned on a deserted island.
2. Your heating bills have skyrocketed because you like to keep it at a balmy 78 degrees in the house.
1. You can’t recall the last time you said, “Ohhh, this is the life!”

If you show 3 or more of the signs above, it’s time to book a vacation! It’s not too late, there are plenty of great last minute getaways available. A Caribbean cruise or an all-inclusive vacation in Mexico just might be what the doctor ordered! There are some really good deals out there right now just waiting for someone like you.
