Hello World!

As this is my first entry, I shouldn’t be at a loss for words.  For some reason, I’m finding myself staring at the computer screen though.  Perhaps it’s because I have so much to say or share about the world of travel that I don’t know where to start?  I love to travel! To me, part of the fun is researching destinations and  sharing my travel experiences and tips.  This is why I found myself changing career paths a few years back.

A little about me (and then I’ll move on to the more interesting travel stuff…)

In my previous life, I worked as a dental hygienist and clinical instructor at the university I received my B.S. degree from. Go MU!  Unfortunately, MU decided to close the program while I was teaching there.  I wasn’t a happy camper about that, but I did have 2 small children at the time and decided that it was a good opportunity for me to be a stay at home mom for awhile. Around a year or two later, I was starting to get antsy to work again.  But, this time I wanted to do something that I really enjoyed and had a flexible work schedule.  My husband thought that I would never find such a thing, but I was out to prove him wrong! It was around that time, that we also decided to take a family vacation. We asked the boys (who were 5 and 8 at the time) if they wanted to go to Disney World or take a cruise.  Believe it or not, they chose the cruise!

Up until this point, I rarely used the services of a travel agent. I had either been lucky enough to grow up with parents who loved to (and still do) travel (they owned a business and earned many incentive travel trips that I was able to take advantage of as well) or I researched and planned my own vacation. Well, I soon found out that finding the right cruise can be a little more daunting and decided it was time to have the professionals help me. Long story short, out of my experience of booking a family cruise with a travel agent that specialized in cruises, came an opportunity for me to become a cruise specialist.  I won’t bore you with all the details, but sometimes things happen when you least expect them.

Since that time, I have expanded my areas of expertise and started my own agency – A Room With A View – Cruise & Travel.   I have found a career that I truly enjoy and has a flexible schedule (I have a home office.)

And my husband, well he finally agrees, that I did prove him wrong.

Next time… The advantages of using a travel professional.
